The Gita Press

The Gita Press is one of the biggest attractions in the city of Gorakhpur. The largest publishers of Hindu religious texts in the world is the Gita Press. It was started when the Brahmalina Shri Jayadayalji Goyandka wanted to promote the principles of Sanatana Dharma in the year of 1923. Over 370 million copies of various Hindu religious texts has been published at the historic Gita Press. They also publish magazines that have religious subject matter that promotes uplifting thought and doing good deed to your fellow neighbor. The Kalyana-Kalpataru is a monthly magazine publication that has been in circulation since the year 1934. None of the magazines published at Gita Press runs advertisements in them. The Gita Press building itself is a gold beautiful building that resembles more of a temple than a publishing house making it one-of-a-kind.

It is part of the Govind Bhawan Karyalaya, Kolkata and other affliated institutions like the Gita Bhavan, Rishikesh, Rishikul-Brahmacharya Ashram, Churu, Rajasthan, Ayurved Sanstahan, Rishikesh, Gita Press Seva Dal, and Hasta Nirmit Vastra Vibhag. Did you know that that Gita Press publishes Bhakta-Gathas, Bhajans, and small books geared towards children. Other than it's remarkable outer beauty the Gita Press also has a vast art gallery located inside. In the Gita Press's art gallery the is 684 paintings by famous artists of the past, present, and future. Including a Mewari style painting of the Shri Krishna Lila is hanging in the exhibit. The magnificent Gita Press has marble plaques on the walls that display all 700 verses of the Bhagvad Gita. It is really breathtaking to visit. You will be in complete awe at the detailed masterpieces that make up the interior of the Gita Press. Although, the Gita Press originally started publishing in only Hindi and Sanskrit it has branched out into other venues publishing books in English as well as various other Indian languages. The Gita Press publishes in Tamil, Telugu, Gurjarati, Bengali, and Oriya.
